Creativity and Core Values in a Culture that’s always on.

May 17, 2025

Hello! Yes, I am still here. Yes, I am still photographing. No, I am not on Instagram and haven’t been for a few months. I wrote out a couple versions of this and it all felt a bit dramatic. While there is so much I could say on the subject of tuning out, sloughing off, honing in, etc., I will keep it simple for now.

I welcomed my third baby recently and the transition back to “always on” made me realize just how inundated my attention had become with shoulds, homogenization, and dopamine-chasing. I draw organic inspiration from nature, beauty, love, connection, and integrity…and yet I’d been in the metaphysical rat-race of daily social media marketing for so long (since starting my photography business) that I didn’t realize how much it was stealing from my experience of those things.

The purpose of this post is really just a re-entry into the blog world – it is not to hate on social media. I still use my personal accounts and, let’s be honest, it is a fantastic (and free) marketing tool. I’ll likely get back to it in a few months, but doing so will look much different than it did before.

My clients value and honor relationships with their loved ones and I love creating art from that.

And so…a turn away from the buzz. A streamline of all the channels of communication I had opened. A promise to be more present – to honor my energy and my art, my family, and the beauty of our days. I’ve always enjoyed writing, so popping in here to share recent work, thoughts, and findings feels just right. A cup of coffee in the morning sun with birds in the background and my boys catching toads. That’s what it feels like.

Cheers!
